Though the Prius has set the standard for hybrid cars, the lineup has expanded to attract all sorts of customers. They range from city dwellers with the Prius c, families with the Highlander Hybrid, Prius V and Camry Hybrid. Prius also comes with a plug-in model that allow for more battery-powered operation for cleaner emissions and a smarter commute.
At the New York International Auto Show, Toyota added one more hybrid to the lineup – the 2016 RAV4 Hybrid.
It will be only vehicle its class with a gasoline-hybrid driveline – a class that is highly competitive. Toyota’s brand General Manager Bill Fay remarked at the reveal of the RAV4 Hybrid that customers were asking for a hybrid model as an alternative. Fay also stated that this model represent “no compromises” when it comes to achieving the highest fuel economy in is class, as well as putting out the lowest exhaust emissions.
However, that is not all! The 2016 RAV4 will receive a facelift across the line and will add a new SE trim to the lineup. A front new front end is now aligned with the latest Toyota models, including the Camry, Yaris and Corolla. The rear end has been revised as well.
The interior received some extensive changes. New soft-touch materials, along with an available larger seven-inch Entune touch screen designed to improve the quality of the RAV4’s cabin. A new tan interior color has been added to current beige, gray and black upholstery offerings.
Inside of the seven-inch screen will feature a new Bird’s Eye View Monitor, giving the driver a 360-degree look to not only assist in backing up, but to help with parallel parking. This will also include an industry-first perimeter scan that offers a live rotating 360-degree view to show the driver any obstacles in the way
More importantly, the RAV4 will become one of the first Toyota vehicles to offer the Toyota Safety Sense package. This will include a Pre-Collision System, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Alert, Automatic High Beams, Pedestrian Pre-Collision System and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. This package will be standard on the Limited and Hybrid Limited.
It has been 21 years since Toyota introduced the original RAV4. It has since changed the landscape of SUVs and crossovers by being the first of its kind. For 2016, the RAV4 adds more to its legacy by bringing the only Hybrid in its class and a comprehensive, affordable active safety suite. As Bill Fay said, the RAV4 offers “no compromises” to its owners.
